The Impact of Obesity and Diabetes on Chronic Liver Disease

This symposium is the second annual joint symposium of the AASLD and CDC.  It will focus on the growing epidemics of both obesity and diabetes (Diabesity) and how these common and complex metabolic diseases of both affluence and genetic predilection impact on chromic liver disease.  The incidence and prevalence of these epidemics will be reviewed and what strategies might be practical and effective to both predict and intervene at the early development stages of obesity and diabetes.

The interaction between these metabolic diseases and chronic liver disease and how this interaction impacts the severity and management of a number of liver diseases with emphasis on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatitis will be discussed

Goals and Objectives:
Discuss whether or not the management of these co-morbid conditions that are so prevalent in patients with liver disease will improve clinical outcome.
