Award Description
The AASLD Clinical and Translational Research Award is intended to foster career development for individuals performing clinical and/or translational research in a liver-related area and who have shown commitment to excellence at an early stage of their research study. The award ensures that a significant portion of young investigators’ time is protected for research, with an overall objective of enabling young investigators to develop independent and productive research careers in liver disease.
The AASLD Jan Albrecht Commitment to Clinical Research in Liver Diseases Award recognizes the work of Janice K. Albrecht, PhD in the planning, management, and oversight of Hepatology research and development programs for Schering-Plough Research Institute, including the treatment of viral hepatitis.

Congratulations to the 2008 recipient of the Jan Albrecht award, Dr. Kiran Bambha from the University of California San Francisco for her research project entitled The Influence of Race and Ethnicity on the Clinical and Genetic Epidemiology of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).
The AASLD Sheila Sherlock Clinical and Translational Research Award in Liver Diseases honors and recognizes Dame Sheila Sherlock for her pioneering research and dedication to young research fellows which helped elevate Hepatology to the discipline it is today.
