The 2010 fellowship application deadline has passed.
Information regarding the 2011 program will be posted in late spring.
The AASLD Advanced/Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program provides salary and benefit support for GI fellows pursuing an additional, full-year of training focused on patient care in advanced/transplant hepatology. The intent of the program is to prepare the trainee to be eligible for certification in transplant hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and/or the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP).
The 2009 recipients of the AASLD Advanced/Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program are:

Dr. Chan Y. Chung, sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco and mentored by Dr. Nathan M. Bass. Prior to joining the UCSF program, Dr. Chung did his residency and third year GI training at Temple University Hospital under the guidance and mentorship of Drs. Larry Miller and Martin Black. Dr. Chung, co-mentored by Dr. Scott Biggins, will focus on the issues of organ allocation and the public perceptions of organ donation as well as management of acute liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma during the fellowship year.
Dr. Winston Dunn, sponsored by Mayo Clinic, Rochester and mentored by Dr. Vijay Shah. Dr. Dunn recently completed the third year of his GI fellowship at the University of California, San Diego under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Schwimmer. While in California, Dr. Dunn also enrolled in the MPH program at San Diego State University to bolster his epidemiology and statistic methodology abilities. This additional field of study will prove invaluable during his fellowship year as he focuses on the association between modest alcohol consumption and steatohepatitis in patients with biopsy proven NAFLD.

Dr. Marina G. Silveira, sponsored by Mayo Clinic, Rochester and mentored by Dr. Keith D. Lindor. Following completion of medical school in Brazil, Dr. Silveira joined Mayo Clinic in Rochester for her internship, residency and now GI and hepatology fellowships. While at Mayo, Dr. Silveira has also completed the Clinical Research Training Program to complement her long-term goal of becoming an independent clinical researcher in the area of chronic cholestatic liver diseases.

Dr. Amit Singal, sponsored by the University of Michigan and mentored by Dr. Jorge A. Marrero. Upon completion of internal medicine residency at the University of Washington, Seattle, Dr. Singal returned to the University of Michigan - where he attended medical school - to continue his work towards his long-term goal of becoming an academic transplant hepatologist. During the fellowship year, Dr. Singal will gain in-depth exposure to the care of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma via the multidisciplinary liver tumor clinic in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Michigan
