Why AASLD, Why now?

AASLD is the leading non-profit organization of scientists and healthcare professionals committed to preventing and curing liver diseases.  As the need for research is increasing, traditional funding  sources are diminishing; grants from the NIH have remained stagnant; and private funding has been dropping consistently.  These reductions in private and public support are especially significant since this alone may discourage many future researchers and physicians from pursuing careers in hepatology.

The programs, educational grants, research awards and fellowships that AASLD supports are vital to finding new treatments for liver diseases and helping to offset the decline in funding available for liver disease research.
