Educating healthcare professionals, scientists, and the public about liver disease is one of AASLD's core goals. Most of our educational symposia offer Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for physicians and always feature expert speakers presenting the finest data on liver disease.

Besides our educational conferences and meetings, we educate professionals and the public through:

  • The Best of The Liver Meeting® 2009 (free web-based education).
  • Peer-reviewed practice guidelines.
  • Joint educational meetings with other U.S. and international societies.
  • Educational programs and materials in support of GI recertification requirements.
  • High-quality scientific journals.
  • Regularly updated list of Hepatology Training Programs in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Collaboration with the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and other related societies to educate the public and healthcare providers.
  • Accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
Education is an integral component of the AASLD mission, goals and objectives. A strong continuing medical education (CME) program enables dissemination of information about liver biology and disease, provides a forum for discussing new and/or controversial issues in the field, and fosters evidence-based strategies for the practice of hepatology, liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery.  The educational activities sponsored, co-sponsored or jointly sponsored by AASLD address the pathophysiology and management of acute and chronic diseases including liver transplantation, as well as advances in research relevant to hepatology.  In addition, specific programs focus on career development and performance improvement.
